What To Wear When: It’s A Heat Wave And You’re Only Out In The Mornings And Evenings

On my way back from Berlin, I missed the salt of the city and the way the kids tell stories without paused breaths. I imagined slow coffee stoop sips between essay wrist twists. And while much of that is possible and happening since my return, an endless heat wave was not what I had in mind. As always, I am thankful for working air conditioners, conversations on making them more sustainable, and general ways we can help our bodies and one another. But if you’re like me and trying to find what to wear (besides nothing at all), here’s something I styled recently.

Here’s what I’m wearing: a scarf to tie my hair back because the heat is too much for my hair to be out, an old jumper c/o J. Crew (similar here ), espadrilles c/o Madewell, Vintage sunglasses from Berlin a few years back (similar here), and the cutest bag c/o Loeffler Randall (similar via Clare V here). For more tangible steps on how to help during a heat wave, as always, I look to my dear friend, Erin for tips.

Is it hot over on your end? If so, I’d love to hear about what you’re wearing!

I just wanted to tell you I love your writing! The words you choose and the way you put them together has this lovely poetic quality inside the prose. I keep coming back here to read your words because when I read them I feel more alive, more inside myself, more present in the world. Thank you for enriching my life with your words!

Marlyse, thank you so much for the beauty and vulnerability in this comment. Words like yours not only enrich my experience here as a creator and founder, but as a writer outside of this space. Appreciate you being here.

Your outfits always inspire me! They’re simultaneously effortless and bold. And really speak to your own style, which I feel like I’m trying to rediscover for myself.

As for summer dressing, I will say my go-to accessory has always been a folding fan. Everyone carries them around in the Philippines and it just makes sense! And it’s a fun addition (and now for me signature) in my own summer dressing.

Magnificent. This post actually makes me feel breezy, which is hard to do in a heat wave. We’re so lucky to have you back in this space, LaTonya!
