I’ve spent most of this week playing music, lighting candles, and thinking about Breonna. This scene as I walked around my neighborhood affirmed that loop in my head. It’s been busy and slow and I even finished a book! Clouds hang low above the city, and I’m taking it as a sign to let my body cave into my apartment a bit. I’m also deciding between purchasing a new book or picking up a book I purchased (but haven’t read) from my own shelf. What have you been reading lately?
Here’s what inspired me this week:
Circle Round, The Most Powerful of All
Eartha Kitt and B. Smith made my week
Another pair, but green. Every. single. summer.
My kids will know every lyric to every 90s song by the time this is all over!
“cultural nourishment and spiritual food”
P.S Are you signed up for the newsletter? In short, it’s a love letter from me to you, in the form of an essay. It’s always free, but you can give $5 a month as a “Care As Community” member, to help sustain the work. I’m sending one out Saturday morning.
I hope you have an amazing weekend!
OH! B. Smith and Eartha Kitt – gorgeous and inspiring. Passion.
We love Circle Round! We’ll give this one a listen.
I’m almost done reading Air Traffic by Gregory Pardlo, Next either Queenie by Candice Canty-Williams or The Untelling by Tayari Jones. I also have been reading Heart Talk by Cleo Wade. I kinda went crazy when the book store opened. Happy weekend!
I could listen to Eartha Kitt read the phone book for 48 hours straight and would be wonderfully entertained. Her voice is perfection.
Eartha Kitt and B. Smith – OMG!! What a treat to watch these two women. And they’re having so much fun together. I could watch them for hours.
It makes me sad that they’re no longer with us.
