Lydia (they/them) is a writer and fashion person, who’s style and smile I adore. Sometimes, especially in the summer, it feels hard not to wear a basic piece of clothing just as a basic. Lydia’s take on style and fashion constantly challenges outdated normative ideology on fashion’s ability to be accesible and attainable, with creativity and resilience at the forefront. Today, I’m happy to have them share four ways in which they styled a basic tee.
Hello! I’m Lydia. I run Style is Style, my outlet for all things personal style and the stuff that bring me joy. It’s wonderful to meet you, even in these turbulent times. Today I’m going to show some of the ways I love to wear a white t-shirt. The humble tee. Perhaps one of the most democratic items in a wardrobe — the white tee is a symbol of daytime casual and an elevated, unbothered attitude. As we’re mostly staying in, I’m fantasizing about a future where we can go back outdoors. I hope you’ll come along.

It’s An Errand (but maybe my ex will be there)
Casual, in a “this old thing” way. Comfortable, easy and damn cute too. Great for the next time you accidentally see them (case of the ex) wearing sweats… so you can smile and keep walking. Or smile and chat. Depends on the day.

On Some Granola
Okay so… hear me out. This is a kombucha in the park, light the incense, do a meditation AND a full body scan type of look. Your comfort? HIGH. Your Emotions? Chill AF. Which like, I need right about now, and the next week.

And Two Makes Three (aka “this is secretly a jumpsuit”)
You have about 5 minutes to accomplish a showstopper. Is it just me this happens to? Layer that white tee over a jumpsuit. Tie it and congratulate yourself on a new pair of pants. A necklace, those killer shoes and guess what? You look GREAT. And it only took that 5 minutes. We good.

It Really is That Simple
For the days that need that spoonful of sugar. My spoonful comes in the form of juicy palettes. Whenever I just need… something, I look to color. Nerve wracking day of work, a new experience or meeting someone — I often shield myself with hues that make me smile. Try it! Simple jeans and tee — how classic is that? Shirt as a jacket. Easy styling hack and you’ve got that armour guaranteed to make your day better.

Enjoy those basic tees! I hope you found some new ways to wear that standby. Stay safe, stay strong. ‘Til next time!
