A Vintage Trench Coat and Evening Film

For whatever reason, I haven’t spent much time hanging out at night. Most evening outs are for work, commumity gatherings, or late-evenings in the local cafe. A few nights ago, I got to speak at The Brooklyn Museum with Regina Porter, author of The Travelers. We spoke about Toni Morrison’s impact on us as black women, mothers, and writers in celebration of her 89th birthday. And for that evening in particular, I wore a vintage trench from that came in the mail that afternoon. It felt like me. It felt like New York.

We took some video to document the beautiful night. And of course, some photos of a jaunt back home in the trench, soon followed…

I forgot how much I loved New York evenings when the weather is mild and the street is quiet and buzzing at once. It depends entirely on the corner, the event, and the weather.

Here’s what I’m wearing:

Leather trench, Subrina Heyink vintage (similar here), Club Monaco jumper (so very comfy!) I wear it at least once a week. It’s no longer available, but a similar one here. Uniqlo x Marimekko turtleneck (similar here), Nina Z Frida boot, and orange wool beret.

    Hi LaTonya!

A little bit of an unrelated question…

I am 13 weeks pregnant and feeling so awkward in my clothes! Perusing blogs this morning is making me miss my clothes so much (high waisted jeans!). Did you mostly thrift when pregnant? I am spending more resources on getting my home where I want it, and splurging on Hatch, Storq, or any of these other lovely brands feels silly.

Anyways, love this beautiful outfit and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

    xo
    Rachel
