This week, has been long and wonderful. The kids took their school pictures, so I spent a good portion thinking about how much they’ve grown. There were several meetings, and I’ve been thinking a whole lot about gift guides! Is there anything you need help with? Want to see, read, etc?
Speaking of gifts, I spent three hours this morning over at Win, an organization that provides several shelters throughout the city to mostly women and children. Myself and 7 other women, proofread and sorted through letters from kids sharing what they’d like for the holidays. We got through 1,300 letters and I’m really grateful that we got to end the week in such a fantastic way. The kids also shared how their year has been, which was really sobering.
So this week, I want to end off with things that are sobering (and not), because ’tis the season. Here’s what’s inspired me this week:
Win, you can find another way to help them this season via their site.
I didn’t drink this summer (more on that later). But now that I am again, I really enjoy a nice glass of orange.
There are two months in this decade, make them count
I just got this as a gift from D’Longhi and I am blown away. Oprah listed it as one of her favorite things, and it feels like a very very nice new toy. I’ve already put it to work twice in the span of three days and excited to use it for Friendsgiving!
Enjoy both..
Ilana x Thinx.. Period.
Today is freezing and I realize after 3 (or maybe 4?) years of the same coat (that is in great condition still) I need a “bubble coat!” I love these Re-Down Sleeping Bag coats. I’m thinking of this color.
I’ve been listening to this Nina Simone album for the past 48 hours

Even more than a gift guide … I’d love to hear your thoughts on an intentional holiday season. Last year at the end of the holidays I felt so melancholy and broke! As stores are getting glittery and weather is cooling down, I was reminded of last year’s emotions and really wanted to make this time of year more purposefully joyful.
I love this Idea, Rachel. I’m on it! xoxo
i feel like were in the same mind zones – i love james baldwin/that picture!! he is a writer i wish i could have befriended, unfortunately we called harlem home in different decades. the annie dillard quote re-entered my life via a newsletter this week and adding donate to Win to my end of decade list: https://tps-steph.blogspot.com/2019/10/0048-to-do-fall.html

Thank God for Thinx. My 11 year old got her first period right after her birthday, and we were both worried about her navigating 6th grade without awkward leaks, etc. She has now worn her Thinx period underwear at school through 3 periods and not one drop went where it wasn’t supposed to! Peace of mind we all wish we had during our teen years. ♥
Hey Donna!
Thank you so much for sharing! It makes me feel so much better about that stage of life! I honestly can’t believe (and so happy) that it’s so much easier for them.
