The other day while stopping to say hi to a friend after school drop-off she said she didn’t recognize me without a “beautifully patterned dress.” That morning, I wore white jeans with a soft button down tucked in. It was a rare occasion of leaving the house at 8 AM without wearing one. The am frequency is simply because for one, dresses are painfully easy. And two, as the stack of comfortable and patterned dresses grow in my closet, the desire to feel glamorous at some ungodly hour grows adjacent to the stack.
And maybe there is no exception this fall? Though I have tried to intentionally choose something other than a dress these past two weeks (denim testing). And there is the fact that it has not yet cooled down enough (until today!) for the way I desire to switch up the wear and style of them.

Transitioning this particular dress would mean a tight turtleneck, chunky hoops and my hair out. It would mean western boots, that are in their own right, conversation starters. And when the night cools, I’d wrap a green cashmere scarf, to not manipulate the ruffles.
Here are a few other dresses I am loving that are easy for transitioning:

- A Tie Midi Dress
- A Ribbed Mock neck maxi dress
- And this Emily Checked Dress
How are you planning on trasitioning your favorite summer dress? Or are you skipping the wear all together?

First of all, you look so beautiful! Makes me want to wear more dresses instead of my usual uniform of jeans and a random top for my job as a teacher. Also, love the pockets and the ability to take it through the warmer days to the inevitably cooler ones. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks so much, Shannon! A friend of mine who just became a teacher in my kids’ school is always wearing these gorgeous dresses and jumpers (mostly jumpers) and I’m always in awe-because it does seem difficult as a teacher.
I’m so happy you feel inspired, it’s almost always too easy to forget dresses work for mostly every season if we are willing to layer and play around a bit. Hoping to show a bit more as the season goes on.
