One of my dear friends, Sarah Sophie Flicker threw me a pre-release party for Woman Of Color last night! Sarah’s house was full of love, with it’s own sense of romance. The party included a few ladies who I interviewed in the book, along with many folks who helped bring it alive. I am endlessly thankful for their help with this dream of mine.
I wore a gifted orange Mara Hoffman dress and vintage slides from Sincerely Tommy, with my grandmother’s belt (for good luck). We had food from Poppy’s Brooklyn, a women owned and run catering company. And we made delicious cocktails with Yola Mezcal, which is owned by Yola who inherited the farm from her grandfather. Yola Mezcal is also run by women and bottled by women. To have their support for Woman Of Color meant the world! We listened to Nina Simone and I even read a chapter from the book. It was so nerve-wracking, but also so beautiful, peaceful, and made me feel so incredibly celebrated and loved.
