Motherhood Right Now: Market Pumpkins

The kids are used to late-night market runs, so when I told them we had to run to our local place after dinner, they didn’t hesitate to go. They had just gotten back from a sweet weekend down-south, and while they were away, the weather had drastically changed in the city. I immediately when into fall prep: I traded in my sandals for boots. I picked up their jackets from the cleaners before they left, and checked the sizes on their sweaters Sunday morning to make sure they would fit. I dreamed of a pumpkin patch, but there aren’t any local ones open yet. I had hoped we would gather leaves on our ride and tape them to the wall when we returned, but time ran low. None of that really matters. You see, there are two giant pumpkins on our stoop, and two of the biggest grins to match.

We’ll leaf collect some other day, I’m sure.  For now, a Sunday night that included two incredibly happy kiddos, a credit card, a pre-loved wagon, new mittens, and a local store with pumpkins available for purchasing, will do just fine. Life is often about shifting plans, changing perspectives, and celebrating things in the corners you’re able to carve for them.

P.S Do you have a favorite Halloween movie for your kids? I’m looking for suggestions!

Christine, Casper used to be my favorite. I think R is old enough now! Will look into it. Thank you!
