Peter and I have been spending the past few weeks re-organizing and re-decorating our living room. It hasn’t be stressful at all. 😉 I started to feel the need to shake up our space back in November, and ringing in 2017 really pushed us into action.
I wanted the space to feel more open and airy, which is always a bit tricky if you have a small space and each space is multi-use. One evening, I randomly searched Craigslist for “orange couch” and one popped up. It was in pristine condition and just traveled from California to New York. I quickly emailed the poster inquiring about the size and availability, and she quickly responded…
The poster was my friend, Mindy, who just moved back to New York City! What are the odds? The couch meant a lot to her and could no longer fit in her new apartment, and so I was happy to adopt it! I love when things like that happen. That seems to happen more often than not in our space, so it truly felt meant to be. The couch is being so loved, Mindy!

I had to bring this chair in from the yard for the winter. It’s fine there for now, but I can’t wait to enjoy it out back again.Â
Peace fingers are a gift from my friend, Tennessee.Â
Our table is from Ikea. We loved the design of the legs and how if pulled out, it can fit 8 people! When pushed back, it doesn’t interrupt the space and it feels like the perfect hosting table while saving us a good buck.
A stack of books. Mostly by friends. The New Bohemians, Afros, The Plantiful Table, Simple Matters, and Swing Time.
My preferred method of coffee, a Chemex.
The cool and sometimes frustrating thing about apartments is that they are always in transition. So even though I share the space with you today, who’s to say I won’t uproot every piece of furniture next week? So many things are undone and so many things have yet to be thought about. Things are in constant motion around these parts.

I love what you've done in your living room. It looks great. LOVE that couch!
Totally random question, but I'm curious- how do you work on your computer with the couch blocking it?
It looks beautiful! I love the peach wall, and all the light and warmth it gives the room!
So lovely and warm! Thank you for sharing your space. I'm always so curious about how other folks live and love to see lived-in homes. There is a beautiful vulnerability in that, don't you think?
I love how full of personality and character your tiny space is and that orange sofa was the move! It takes the liveliness of the space to a whole new level. And I love the story of how you were able to find it. It was meant to be.
Totally it is! I feel every time i post something about my home. It's a different kind of vulnerability for sure. Home sort of feels like the key to your soul a bit, so to leave it open for judgement and question is just a bit different.
Thank you, Anne
Not random at all! It's on display, so I expect questions. So we really had nowhere else to put. We built shelves on the other side of the fireplace, so to even it out I had the idea to add shelves to the other side. I also just hate screens obstructing rooms. (Our tv actually swings around so you can watch it on the couch). Luckily, I have a laptop that I use 90% of the time, and Peter is no longer home editing. The few times we have used it at that spot, we just sit criss crossed facing the screen on our comfy couch. Peter is currently sketching a way to get the shelf moving, so it can swing around while sitting on the couch, so that it's more functional. But its definitely on the bottom of the list.

Thank you so much.
I love your living room so much! Simple yet colorful. Love the orange couch + pale peach wall!
Love this all so much. Could you share details about that beautiful peachy pinky wall color? Thanks!
Do you know the details (brand, color name) on that perfect peachy pink wall color? What a great color with the orange couch!
