Thanksgiving is over, the pies have been devoured, the turkey is going in for soup fixins’, and many of us dusted off the Christmas decor when the clock struck 7am. All is fine and well. However, something still lingers – when the holidays are done, rather, in-between them, what do you do with your more festive pieces?
These days, when the length of the dress permits, I let it take on a more casual form. With my favorite denim comfortably worn under, this holiday slip from Zappos (they offer free shipping and free return shipping, making holiday shopping super easy as well ) goes from party to afternoon walk within minutes. When layering pieces like this, the fit of the dress and the denim is crucial. Too tight of a dress and too loose of a denim, creates weird shapes – which doesn’t mix well when you’re rocking curves like me.
More than anything, I love how this look feels like an entirely different outfit when I remove a few elements. Even the hat makes it a tad more casual. I could easily go home and convert this back to a holiday look with tights, the same boots, turtleneck, dress, statement earrings, and my fro. I find it fascinating and ridiculously fun.

love the look and getting those boots!
I miss the days of wearing long sleeves under spaghetti straps. That's it–I'm bringing it back! Well, you're bringing it back but I'm straight up copying you.
