Ladies Night

As an adult woman, one thing that I’ve realized over and over is that my girlfriends are a true extension of my family. I knew this before. Matter of fact, I found this out in my teens, when one of my best friends helped me in a tremendous way.  She was my safe place. And still, almost a decade later, continues to be. She’s not the only one. During my birthday, I made an effort to keep count and really acknowledge their presence in my life. The way our souls have been connected for many years, through many things- is beautiful. The indescribable connection with each of them is precious to me. They are the sharers of my dreams, Godmothers to my children, secret keepers, shoulders to cry, constant creative inspirations, celebrators, and loves of my life.
Even some of my newer relationships, they are true. They’re so many layers to our sisterhood.
I’ve been working with Izze for a few months now, and I’ve really enjoyed each project I’ve produced with them. I feel as though they push me to acknowledge the bits around me, the bits that often don’t get displayed on this blog or on social media. They’re the ones that tug at my soul. I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to crack the window on those bits just a tad. The opportunity to be more open in this space.

We all sat in my backyard, under the Brooklyn sky, with the mosquitos occasionally biting, the sweat dripping, the candles burning, our bellies full of pizza and sparkling water– and slightly aching from laughing too hard. Each of their faces lit up under the night. At times, all I could see through the dark were smiles, and all I could hear were our echoes floating along with the city’s buzz.
As each one entered, I passed them a different Izze’s Sparkling Water, gave them a hug, and requested that they’d be honest about the flavor. One by one they sat down, so different from one another, but all the same. “Wow, this is really good.” Each response left me in agreement and total excitement. Because when your girlfriends not only want to hang, but also, enjoy the reason behind the night, you tend to feel like you’ve hit the jackpot.
The night went on. Strawberry Letter Number 23 played in the back and one of my oldest friends, Court, re-connected with one of her favorite jams.
The night seemed to fade away far too quickly.
I had fallen asleep that night with a dead phone and a full heart; remembering the importance of my sisters and new girlfriends, and of the strength of women in all. When I woke up, and when my phone was finally charged, I was hit with a flood of texts from the night before and the morning after. Each one, making me fully aware of the space and love we shared that night..

Izze’s Sparkling water is 100% USDA Organic, and completely refreshing. This post is in partnership with Izze. Thank you for believing in the partners that I wholeheartedly believe in.

P.S
My dress is vintage, but here’s something similar (only two more days of Nordstrom’s anniversary sale!)
My headscarf is from Block Shop Textiles
My Nail polish is from Izze
And aren’t my friend’s shoes fantastic?  Here’s something similar.

There is something really special about having a supportive group of female friends.

Falling "asleep…with a dead phone and a full heart" is the best. Thanks for sharing. This was so nice 🙂
