Small Cooking & Small Living| #nytough

Christmas is just a few days away, and that means a lot of action for our little apartment. More specifically, for our closet kitchen. We playfully call it a “closet kitchen” because of the obvious; it looks like our landlords found a closet and shoved a counter in it. Our oven barely pulls all the way out, and we keep a healthy cap on how much cookware we have. Our storage space is limited to racks and open shelving. Our counter is well… small. A small spill easily becomes an entire kitchen mess, and we depend on our Bounty paper towels to help us with those small kitchen messes daily.

I usually forget how small our kitchen is until I’m asked to showcase it or talk about it. It’s such a norm for us. Procter & Gamble asked me to share what it means to live in New York, an what makes me, their products, even our apartment, #nytough during this holiday season.

When it comes to cooking large meals in our small space, there’s no sweat off my back. Our space is a normal for us, and it’s a happy normal. Yes, big things become even bigger things because of the lack of counter and overall space, but we enjoy it. Our small kitchen forces us to be near each other in the best way when creating meals as a family. Most cooking sessions, you will gladly find me chatting away about something totally unrelated to our meal, whilst leaning over the sink and washing dishes. You’ll find River and Peter dancing away in the living room to some oldies, and Oak sitting in his Bumbo seat staring up at me from the hallway. It’s a beautiful scene that will forever be etched in my memory.

Despite it’s size, this kitchen, my kitchen, is home for our quirky family. Our long lasting love for Bounty paper towels helps me keep up with the smaller and larger spills in this very small space. And I’m sure, as we approach this holiday as a family, it will be there once again. Helping us usher in guest after guest, mess after mess. Cooking, cleaning, and cooking some more, and creating beautiful memories all at the same time.

For us, #nytough goes far beyond the situations we are faced with because of our small living quarters. For us it means fighting through the not so good moments, and cooking and cleaning our way through the good moments. It means dancing in our sometimes-overcrowded living room, and talking too loudly in our closet kitchen. It means that my kids will find adventure in the streets of this amazing city, but comfort and this tiny space.  We, our bond, our memories, are #nytough.

In the spirit of the holidays, I am hosting an amazing giveaway on instagram in collabaration with Procter & Gamble. One winner will win a full product pack ( Dawn, Tide, Bounty, Febreeze, etc) and a $25 AMEX gift card! See entry rules and post on my instagram account. Good luck!

This post was in partnership with Procter & Gamble for their #nytough campaign. Thank you so much for supporting my partners who I believe in!

You have a way with words Latonya! Loved reading this! I chuckled at "closet kitchen"! You know it's really not about the space but the memories shared. Plus your home is superbly decorated! Happy Holidays to you and yours.

I love that you said having a small kitchen forces you and your family to be near each other, I think I want a small kitchen when I have my own family some day too! And I love these photos, they're so refreshing xx
