Right before I had Oak, there was this one day where I had party jumped with River throughout the whole day. I was deep into my pregnancy, but I had stayed moving the entire time, feeling great and mostly not pregnant. I was unaware of how much weight I gained during my pregnancy because I walked constantly and had fairly light and healthy meals most of the time. It felt as though that was the way pregnancy was supposed to be. Not a time where I overindulged, or skimped on food, I just did and I just was. That day in particular I had joked about being so active that my body would just “snap back” post labor. Soon after I had Oak I realized that no such thing would happen, at least not quickly.
Right before Jawbone reached out to me, I had tried and failed at cutting back on the time of day I ate my meals. I also spent many mornings running, burning off a lot of calories too, and gaining a pound or two in return. I still was hungry at various-inconvienent times of the night because of breastfeeding, and waking up early to run before Peter started his work day seemed impossible at times with a new baby. After receiving my UP24 I realized that I was doing it all wrong. The sleep, the eating, the exercising, all of it. (fact: if you’re nursing you are supposed to consume 500 more than your pregnancy calorie intake, which should have been 2,000. So 2,500 it is. Don’t skimp, you end up gaining weight if you do.) I started using my UP24 right away. I soon realized that my goal isn’t and should not be losing x amount of pounds, at least while I am nursing full-time. My goal should simply be to change my lifestyle. I am a habitual under-eater during the day (I feel like all moms forget to feed themselves during the day? #hangry), and working/blogging snacker at night, with little sleep. I am so excited to change these ways!
This month, I am partnering with Jawbone, by using the UP24 to help me with these lifestyle changes. The UP24 is a small device that wraps around your wrist, and helps you reach or maintain a healthy lifestyle in a more holistic way. By connecting directly with the app that tracks everything daily (sleep, food, movement, water, the whole shabang) quite conveniently in real time, it fits seemingly into your life. It doesn’t stand out in an unsightly manner, and I’ve been wearing it just as I would a bracelet every single day, and loving it. In just a week or so, it has made me change my bedtime, leaving me feeling joyous in the morning, instead of cranky. It’s funny how things change when you’re more aware of your bad habits.
I think the fun part of all of this is, Peter is joining me on this journey too. Already we both wake up and besides a stinky morning kiss, we ask each other “How much sleep did you get babe?” We’ve already tweaked little things to help each other be the best we can be, and who doesn’t love a good ol’ competition when it comes to who’s moving the most around here?
I plan on popping in and out of instagram a few times here and there to share some updates throughout the month. Thank you all so much for joining me.
This post was in partnership with Jawbone, thank you so much for supporting my partners who I believe in!
I just bought Fitbit and I am loving it so far. Hope the Jawbone works great for you, would love to hear more about it and hear how it's going!
I'm getting back into running as well and I was looking into the Jawbone UP recently to help me track my days. I might purchase it down the road. It'd be great to get an update on how you like it.
Also, beautiful, precious photos here!
lovely photos!!

I think I do pretty well, then I spend a day recording what I've eaten and realize…not so much. And as for exercise, spotty at best. And sleep, basically not enough. I'm curious to see how you like the Jawbone…a tracker seems like it might help me make some little changes.
I love it so far! Peter had the fitbit first, and likes the up24 more. I think because of the app. Do you feel like having the fitbit makes you more aware of your food, movement etc?

Thank you Adia!
So far I am really loving it! I do wish it had a breastfeeding point addition or something like that in the app. I was actually putting in all of my food, and also entering the weight I wanted to lose. It let me know how long it would take to lose x amount of pounds in a certain amount of days, I loved it! But because of BF it made no sense, because I was going over my allotted intake to lose weight, but really I was just following the breastfeeding rule. When I stop breastfeeding exclusively I'll use the food tracker again.
Hey Jessica! Exactly, I thought I was doing good before, but then I realized i was under eating during the day-severly and overeating at night. After tracking my food for just a few days, I realized my issue. I took a break because of bf but I'm excited to get tracking again when he's no longer feeding exclusively. Right now, I'm loving the sleep tracker. It's actually what has given us the confidence to decide that Oak needs to be with River in the room because he's actually sleeping through the night. Let me know if you decide to purchase and if you love it or not! xo
