Potty Training- A little More

I haven’t talked about River and her potty training in a while. So here it goes!
She’s been doing amazing. He growth since this post has been astronomical and I’m not quite sure why it has taken me so long to blog about it.

Having her potty trained has been pretty freeing for me as a parent. I kind of always felt limited on outings with diapers. I despised changing them. My gag reflex has always been something of an uphill battle for me. I get very queazy very fast. The slightest smells, thoughts, sights-you name it, my stomach couldn’t take it. I have been this way since childhood and I always wondered what would parenting do to my bumpy stomach. Loving her, being her parent made changing her way easier than I thought. I always did it out of love, even though I didn’t like doing it. And when you do things from love, it doesn’t seem as much of a daunting task.

Back to my rockstar who really deserves all of the credit here. 

For her, going on her potty is a breeze. She likes to be left alone in the bathroom, or in the living room watching a bit of t.v while she goes. She’s very private, and really enjoys her own little bubble. In those ways in-particular, she is most like me. When she goes, she cleans. I started a little system for her a while ago, and on her own accord she followed. Sometimes, of course I have to clean it, and those times I sneak it away. She’s pretty strong willed and the potty using and cleaning portion is all hers.

During the day we are often out. Running errands, from play date to play date, meeting to meeting. Usually just us two, flowing through the city. Obviously finding an easy bathroom solution for River was key. I bought this portable potty a few months ago and it has been a life saver. Please, if you need an easy potty for your kid on the go buy this one! Her potty has been the accident preventer. Yes, I do have a good grasp on where general bathrooms are in our neighborhood and around the city. But not always. And sometimes you’ll find yourself in the middle of Central Park with your child crying and complaining they have to go, and there is a police man right there (I heard that they will give you a ticket if your child pees in the park. Is that true?!) and the potty is all that stand between you, a ticket, and an accident. Her little potty fits right under our stroller carriage, and is an easy fold. We have a little “potty bag” that holds two change of clothes (just in case) wipes, and plenty of plastic bags. Yes, plastic bags. That’s all you need for the potty. Put a plastic bag in, let her go, wipe, tie the bag up and find the nearest garbage. It’s so ridiculously easy.

There are days where River insists on peeing in the grass. I’m not really sure where she picked this up from. Maybe it was that ONE time I let her pee in the grass in the corner, or maybe from a friend. But she does get pretty passionate about grass peeing. ha!

Currently, I feel we are in a bit of a straight stage of the potty. She is no longer “training” in my eyes. She’s very capable of going, and will go whenever she sees fit. At night she’s still using diapers. So far I find no problem with this. She isn’t three yet and she still drinks a lot of milk before bed. One of the “signs” they are ready to be transferred out of diapers at night is if they wake up dry. River still, at almost 3 wakes up extremely wet. Like most things, once she’s ready I’ll kno. And we will go on that journey together.
